Shiny New CD Reviews
Mr Tully Mansfield reviewed 3 new albums for us. Check them out below.
THE AUDITION - Self Titled
This third full length offering from Chicago based pop-punk rockers The Audition is a somewhat confusing proposition that leaves the listener a little uncertain how to feel about it. On one hand, they deliver an album full of all the catchy guitar hooks, well delivered pop melodies and heartbroken lyrics you could ever want, and, in all honesty, it’s not actually that bad (if you’re into that sort of thing). The main downfall here is that it’s all been done before. And unfortunately for The Audition, they’re about 2 years too late. If you’re after something new and different, this isn’t for you. But if you just need something to fill the space between Fallout Boy albums, this one could be worth a listen.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA - With Roots Above and Branches Below
Textbook Metalcore. That’s the only way to describe The Devil Wears Prada’s follow up to 2007’s ‘Plagues’. Screams, growls and overproduced melodic choruses are all delivered in equal measure. Musically adept guitar melodies are offset by breakdown after breakdown, and of course, ample amounts of double kick. Oh, and because they are so very clever, a whole lot of fairly unnecessary synthesizer parts are included for our listening pleasure. All in all, this is a pretty boring album, though sadly, you can’t help but get the feeling that the kids will still lap it up and gladly come back for more.

THE RED SHORE - Lost Verses
Australia’s own champions of the ‘deathcore’ genre, The Red Shore, deliver the goods with this new release. Rather than new material, this offering is a collection of early songs, including some from the bands first EP, that have been re-recorded and re-mastered and it has to be said, the results are quite impressive. An intense, brutal mix of blast-beats, breakdowns and wonderfully technical guitar work, comes together nicely with solid song-writing and memorable hooks. This release proves the hype around this band to be very valid indeed. And hopefully, they are only going to keep getting better and better.

Bad Religion & NOFX
NOFX and Bad Religion. Sharing a stage. We're talking political and socially aware diatribes wrapped up in tight-as-fuck punk rock. They're older than you, and they rock a lot harder than you ever will. Kind of like your drunk uncle.
