Winter 2010
Here you have it guys. The Winter 2010 issue is finally out and it's an exciting one. As not only do we have our first male cover (In the form of the penultimate man. Mr. Henry Rollins) we also have the awesome paintings of Shawn Barber gracing our pages. We delve into the story of the true Don Ed Hardy, the man himself. Not the horrible and cheap line of clothing by Christian Audigier that has butchered his art. (Diamonties... really?) Josh Roelink talks about tattoo conventions and Mr. Bevan follows the rabbit hole in search of the truth behind Lewis Carrol and his famed stories. Along with all the usual photos of you guys, your ink and your tattooists, The You'll Regret That Section (Now affectionately known as *sigh*) provides wonderment as always. Along with all our usual features and tattoo art we have the artist Melletios Kyriakidi, and a photo submission section, giving you correct guidelines with how to submit your photos so that they will look great and can be included in our mag. Plus heaps more. Keep on supporting Australian Tattooing and art.

Autumn 2010
We've made it to that all-important one year mark with Post Modern Ink, proving our sustainable mettle in this crazy world of art we've embraced. Issue #5 is, like each issue before it, an evolution of both our own ideas and those we pick up along the way with everyone we've crossed paths with, and it's also further proof we're not even remotely close to being out of interesting and visually stimulating concepts and ideaologies to report. f you haven't picked it up yet, we have some great stuff in there with Luke Leonard embarking on a quest to understand the ancient ritual of face tattooing in Myanmar, Matt Cunnington talks Shishi, Alison Dale looks at modern feminimity, Skelton gets voyer on your (or his) arse, we find He-Man immortalised in contemporary art, James Judge talks to street-art legend Phibs, and hip-hop wordsmith, Phrase while a host of new photographers came on board to give us the gift of their vision behind the lens. Plus plenty of tattoo art, You'll Regret That and heaps, heaps more - all redesigned to celebrate our coming through the year unscathed and stronger than ever. So if you haven't checked it out yet, make sure you do and support Australian art and tattoo culture.

Jamie Kilstein
Jamie Kilstein: A one man comedic wrecking ball, coming soon to a dilapidated belief system near you!
Jamie makes light of the things that demand to be mocked into obsolescence, aiming the cross hairs at homophobes, racists, the religious right and other such bigots. Some might say it seems easy when these things tend to mock themselves by default but to see his set is to realise what crazy times we live in, and that as serious as these problems most definitely are, they can still be giggle fodder. Evolution is the way forward, those who look backwards and cannot smile are the sickness and therefore political comedy is the best medicine, as Jamie's set epitomises.
Mitch B catches up with Mr Kilstein and they digress heavily whilst occasionally staying on topic talking about tattoos, evolution, comedy and the evolution of comedy amongst other things (like digression).
For the interview grab issue #4, but until then you've got a chance to catch Jamie Kilstein do his routine if you get to The Comedy Store, Entertainment Quarter in the next week. (13th -17th Oct. 2009)

PMI Spring 2009 - Behind The Scenes
It's been a long haul getting to issue #3, what with combating the non-believers, staying strong (and awake through deadlines), walking a thin line between ardency and marketibility, all while maintaining our key ethos, but it's out and we're still going strong with the incredible Tara Moss as the perfect example of our direction and reach. So if you haven't seen the mag yet, get out there and pick it up!

Tattoos Advancing Beyond Western World

© Zoriah/www.zoriah.com
While the art and culture of tattoos may well be ingrained in daily life for those of us populating the Western world, they're still very much an underground and oft frowned upon cultural emergence in less free countries.
In Rawlpindi and Islamabad in Pakistan for example, tattoos are increasing in popularity and many artists are finding their way there to help the growth of the art. This, however, does conflict with much of the religious element of the area with religious scholars claiming anyone with tattoos cannot rightly offer prayer.
There's also a questions of sanitisation and sterilisation due to the increased popularity of the movement without the proper guidelines or education. Many aspiring artists are tattooing from home and sharing tattoo needles among their customers, causing alarm among many health officials.
A bit further away, the presence of Western soldiers in various parts of Iraq have helped the popularity of tattoos grow beyond simple lines, dots or names into dragons, tigers and more. It's just one example of the cultural impact the occupation of US and British troops and officials has had in war-torn Iraq, despite the clearly negative impact the art-form has on religion and certain societal elements of the country.
"Before the war, no one knew about the cultures from outside, but now so many people know about Western culture," Kawakeb Salah Hamed, a sociology professor at Baghdad University, told CS Monitor.com. "Now, young peoplelike to do almost anything they see in Western culture."

K-Fed Gets Thug Leg Up

He might be famous for being the douche-bag boyfriend of Britney Spears, but K-Fed has just been handed a serious career booster with Bone Thugs N Harmony announcing they were going to work with the wannabe white rapper stating "It's gonna be viewed and doubted by a lot of people".
Layzie Bone continued, “As Bone Thugs N Harmony with a brand new platform, we're coming to show everybody what type of real hitmakers we are. We're gonna make a multi-platinum album and party with the paparazzi. We coming to prove y'all wrong TMZ! Kevin Federline is gonna be platinum when Bone Thugs N Harmony is done with him."
Bone Thugs N Harmony have worked with some of the biggest names in rap and hip hop including the late Tupac Shakur and Biggy Smalls. Whether their clout can hide the fact K-Fed is one of the least seriously taken people on the planet will remain to be seen.

Tattoo Friendly New Zealand
A recent study in New Zealand revealed one in five people there are tattooed. The survey consisted of people aged over 18 and gave rise to evidence of some 19 percent of the population is inked and that of that percentage, females were more likely to be tattooed than men.
“Polynesians gave the English language the word ‘tattoo’ which is derived from the Samoan word tatau,” said a director of the research company, Tim Grafton. “So it should be no surprise that Pacific Islanders and Maori were also far more likely to have had tattoos than others."
It would be interesting to see what percentage of Australians are tattooed or not, we might have to try and get our own study happening. Good to see the ladies are kicking the guys’ asses as well. Choice bro!

Play Guitar Hero With Fall Out Boy
Like them or hate them (like Chad does), Fall Out Boy are one of the biggest bands on the planet. Microsoft are also one of the biggest companies on the planet. So what happens when the two combine? Err, they take over the deck of the HMAS Tobruk (Cher style) for a massive concert billed to take place on February 22nd for “Xbox Sounds”.
If you’re a fan of the band and think you’re pretty good at Guitar Hero World Tour, you can log into Xbox Live, register, create a high score for Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and four of you (only four and it’s bass, vocals, drums and guitar respectively) will be invited to hang out with the guys back stage and play them at Guitar Hero (and hopefully humiliate them). You only have until Feb 16 to register and post your high score though.

If You’re Bruised and Tattooed, Say Hi to Eliza Dushku

Former Buffy star (and Arnie True Lies daughter), Eliza Dushku, is proud of her Kat Von D’d ink. She’s also into what sounds like thugs.
“I like guys who play hard and have calluses on their hands,” she said in an interview in Maxim. “Any guy who's been raised in a bubble hasn't lived enough for me. Scars and broken body parts and tattoos are hot."
Dushku will be appearing on the cover of the March issue of Maxim and also has some new show called Dollhouse where she plays a different character in every episode. Still cool to see big stars sporting ink, especially stuff done by our cover gal, Kat Von D.

“Sure you can have my number baby!” – US President Barack Obama
In his book “Dreams From My Father”, US President Barack Obama cites the colourful antics of a high school friend who was also bi-racial. What’s awesome about this is the US President also read on the book’s audio tape, which means said “colourful antics” were recorded and include the likes of “That guy ain't shit. Sorry ass motherfucker” or “There are white folks, and then there’re ignorant motherfuckers like you” among a few others.
You can check out (and download) the sound bites by following this link. Dare we say it though: Coolest. President. Ever.
